Academic supervisors bringing out best in Postgrad students

Critical skills development amongst PhD students relies heavily on the role of academic supervisors. ORSC-trained academics are helping the supervisors onto journeys of discovery about the many and complex roles they play.

Through the ORSC Metaskills Wheel methodology as part of a coaching support programme, groups of 7 to 20 top academic supervisors in three South African universities moved into a place of conscious choice about these roles, ranging from functional rational progression and gatekeeping roles and tasks, to encouraging critical thinking, mentoring and supporting personal growth and developing the emotional intelligence of the student.
